EUROPEMATCH

What is synonymous with fire? The answer is clear: matches! They are the core of the Europe Match brand, which has a long tradition. The earliest predecessor dates back to around 950 BC, when a more primitive method of fire ignition was developed using resin-soaked pine needles.

Throughout history, alchemists, inventors, and chemists improved matches. Eventually, Rudolf Christian Boettger invented the safety match in 1848. He sold his patent to the Swedish company “Zündholzkonig.” Later, Ivar Kreuger founded a Swedish conglomerate that continued production in Germany until 1983.

Today’s Europe Match GmbH is the result of this legacy, founded in 2006 by long-time manager Klaus Bruns. Among other achievements, he opened a production facility in Szeged (Hungary), bringing over 150 years of expertise into modern match production. Today, approximately 1.5 million boxes of matches are produced daily.
