SUMMER T-SHIRTS – COTTON vs. POLYESTER

Publication date:

Cotton, lat. GOSSYPIUM MALVACEAE, belongs to the Malvaceae family. The fruit of the yellow-flowering Malvaceae plants is cotton fiber. Cotton has been cultivated for more than 5,000 years BC in South America and Asia (Peru, India). Different types of cotton have been grown, thriving in both tropical and subtropical regions.

Terry products made from high-quality Egyptian cotton are softer, more pleasant to the touch, and have greater volume compared to terry products made from standard cotton yarn.

Cotton varieties differ mainly in fiber length, which can range from 9 to 60 mm. Cotton cultivation requires high temperatures, high humidity, and plenty of sunlight, as well as dry weather before harvest. Cotton is the most important natural fiber used in the production of textile products and as a raw material for technical goods, such as fabric used as reinforcement in car tires. The textile industry uses most cotton for producing all types of fabrics and knits for various purposes, such as underwear, clothing, home textiles, threads, and hygiene products.

SUMMER T-SHIRTS – COTTON vs. POLYESTER

Cotton is a material that is always a good choice, whether for everyday outfits or more formal occasions. We believe everyone has only positive experiences with it and no real complaints. It absorbs moisture very well, behaves nicely when wet, and can be washed at high temperatures without damage. From the highest quality cotton, our FRUIT OF THE LOOM AND RUSSELL EUROPE T-SHIRTS are made.

We recommend cotton in all seasons, because it absorbs sweat well, provides comfort, prevents bacteria buildup, and eliminates unpleasant odors even after hours of wear.

Polyester is a type of polymer containing ester groups in its main chain. Although there are many types of polyesters, the term is commonly used for synthetic fabrics, especially polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Polyesters can also exist as various chemical compounds. Natural polyester and some synthetic polyesters are biodegradable, while most synthetic polyesters are not.

Polyester as a fabric is used in the production of various clothing items such as shirts, trousers, jackets, and hats, as well as for bed sheets, blankets, upholstered furniture, mouse pads, and more. It is also used for manufacturing seat belts, ropes, conveyor belts, tire reinforcement, cushioning, and insulation materials.

While synthetic clothing is often considered less natural compared to fabrics such as cotton and wool, polyester fabrics can offer certain advantages, including improved durability, strength, and color retention. As a result, polyester fibers are often blended with natural fibers to produce fabrics with enhanced properties and greater resistance to water, wind, and other external conditions.

Our recommendation is always a blend used in polo shirts, sweatshirts, or shirts in certain ratios (65:35, 70:30, 80:20).
